“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” - Ernest Hemingway
When Savannah Matthews first joined HOSA, she was searching for medical knowledge, but she ended up finding her voice. Before her involvement, Savannah describes herself as quiet and anxious when faced with the unfamiliar.
Through the supportive community of HOSA, she discovered a sense of purpose that pushed her to step far outside her comfort zone. Inspired by the authenticity of the leaders before her, Savannah realized that staying true to herself was her greatest strength – a value she now brings to her role as State Treasurer.
Savannah’s calling to medicine was established early through her parents, both physicians, but HOSA taught her the "why" behind the "what." She believes healthcare is about leading with compassion and authenticity, striving to leave everything better than she found it. Coming from a rural town, Savannah is aware of the challenges posed by limited resources. She is dedicated to deconstructing the narrative of financial constraints in underserved areas, working to provide new fundraising initiatives and opportunities for all chapters.
Savannah’s background as a competitive gymnast for eight years has gifted her with an incredible sense of discipline, which she now uses to coach younger athletes. Her life is a blend of rigorous structure and creative expression. She is a member of the Mountain Home Symphony Orchestra and finds joy in crocheting, scrapbooking, and baking. Whether she is serving at a local blood drive or brainstorming fiscal strategies for the state, Savannah is a leader who values staying true to herself and works to ensure every member has the resources they need to succeed.
