“Remember where you come from, and celebrate it. To remember where you come from is a part of where you are going”- Anthony Burgess
Tanner Chism’s HOSA story began in the seventh grade with a quiet search for a place to belong, but this search evolved into a six year-long transformation, taking her voice from a whisper into a catalyst for change. For her, HOSA was what forged her character, providing a space where her ideas could prosper and her leadership could take root. She credits her growth to the intentional community that chose to listen, teaching her that true influence is not about the title you hold, but the way you utilize the platform you have been given.
A defining moment in Tanner’s journey was a transparent conversation with David Gonzales (HOSA Int. Secondary Board Rep), who helped her dismantle the imposter syndrome that often clouds high-level leadership. This interaction reframed her perspective, teaching her that even the most impactful leaders face hurdles. As she assumes the role of State President, Tanner is committed to serving as a "North Star" for the Arkansas delegation, showing her members the same kindness and vulnerability David showed her in her first term.
Grounded in humility, Tanner builds her leadership on a single truth: never forget your roots. She intentionally elevates and honors the people who paved her path, deeply grateful for those who sacrificed convenience to encourage her, and she works to actively pay that kindness forward to those she serves. Beyond her presidential duties, Tanner seeks involvement in the wider world of advocacy. She serves as the Director of Partnership and Events for a global research startup and will be conducting Public Health research at the University of Arkansas in alignment with her senior year of high school. Aspiring to a career in Health Policy and Law, she is driven by a mission to reverse systemic inequities. When she isn't taking on new initiatives, Tanner finds balance in her personal hobbies, whether perfecting her craft on the guitar, expanding her Lego collection, going down rabbit holes of new subjects, exploring her local book store scene, or thrifting through all the best spots in her area.
